The Marfa Lights

This is the first song I wrote with a purpose, I wanted to write something in C-minor that sounded Pink Floydish. It wasn't until I had recorded some of the music that it reminded me of the Marfa Lights. The Marfa Lights are mysterious lights that appear at night when you park in an area between the town of Alpine and Marfa Texas.  I was at Sul Ross University (Go Lobos) when I saw these lights on several locations.  This song is also the first time that I used someone other than myself on one of my songs.  Mary Naylor sings the chorus of the song.  I had written a chorus but it was kind of flat and the song lost its mysteriousness.  I then came up with present chorus and I was going to sing it myself.  But couldn’t really do a very good job of it.  I remembered that Mary had a really nice voice so I asked her to do it and she said yes.

Song Lyrics

I was driving on highway 90

It was late I was getting sleepy

Saw a place to pull on over

Ahhhhhhh Ahhhhhhh Ahhhhhhh

Lights were dancing different colors

Some alone Some in pairs

Up and Down Big and Small

Ahhhhh Ahhhhhh Ahhhhhhhh

Was I dreaming or was it real

Ancient Spirts or Car light from the hills

No one really knows the Mystery Lights

Ahhhhhh Ahhhhhh Ahhhhhhhh
